Second Student Apartment for Pembina

Plans for a student housing apartment building next door to one already under construction on Pembina Highway were unveiled at the April 9 Assiniboia community committee meeting.

Coun. Janice Lukes (Waverley West), Coun. Kevin Klein (Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood) and Coun. Scott Gillingham (St. James) were in attendance.

The application by Richard + Wintrup Design and Development and Campus Suites was for rezoning the land at 2537 Pembina Hwy. from commercial to residential mixed-use in order to build an 18-storey, 397 residential unit apartment building with commercial space on the main floor. The units will be oriented to university students in a multiple-family format, with each suite having a complete kitchen.

There was also a variance application to increase the height of the building and decrease the front and side yards in size.
